The Okanui Origin
It all began in Australia back in 1956.
A visiting American swim team demonstrated some new surfboards at Avalon, Manly and Torquay.
The boards were called Malibu’s or Okanui’s.
It then followed that early Australian surfboard manufacturers started making similar shape boards.
And along with the new boards came new surf wear.
Various long boardshorts were then developed to help avoid the chaffing on the inside of the legs caused by sitting on the waxed surfboards.
